Blog Post # 1: Q5 Begins

The Art and Cheese of France
Led by Caitlin Smith
Discover a wide variety of French artists and cheeses in this deliciously sensory workshop. In addition to visiting the Museum of Fine Arts and the Peabody Essex Museum, we'll meet local cheesemongers and bakers who will teach us how to craft artistic cheese plates and fresh baguettes. Back at CC, we'll study art and film over cheese and chocolate fondue.

Photo 1: CCHS students enjoy a taste of France at the Concord Cheese Shop. Thanks to the hospitality of Alison, Staci and CCS owner Peter Lovis (pictured in the foreground), we enjoyed a variety of delicious cheeses. Later that afternoon, Mr. Lovis visited us at CCHS to teach us about cheese making, the importance of "terroir", the art of pricing cheeses, and even how to succeed at a job interview. Merci beaucoup to the entire Concord Cheese Shop staff; we had a wonderful time!

Community Service Project in Boston
15 of our students worked at Zelma Lacey House in Charlestown today.  They spent much of the time simply bonding with residents, listening to stories and asking questions.  Everyone, old and young, enjoyed the companionship.  Students also helped create a colorful new rock garden for residents to enjoy!

Course Description:
Led by Led by Mr. Lonergan, Mr. Parato, Mr. Flynn, and Mr. Hoblitzelle
Students will volunteer at the Yawkey Club of Roxbury (Boys and Girls Club of Boston) for community service involving local youth and various projects as they arise.  The hope is that we have a mix of Boston, Carlisle and Concord students signed up.

Rock Climbing 101
Course Description:
Led by Amy Byron

Climbing is very much a physical and mental challenge. The rock presents you with a puzzle that you solve through body movements and different techniques in order to reach the top. The route may require fancy footwork, a strong core, contact strength, or just the confidence to go for a hold that seems well out of your reach. Are you up for the challenge?

Mindfully Boxing your Shadow Self

Course Description:
Led by Eric Rivera

Students will learn the physical art of boxing (shadow boxing) while learning how to channel negative energy into an appropriate form of exercise. Students will learn about the art of boxing through heavy bag training and punch mitt routines. There will also be a meditative/yoga component to balance out the boxing workouts. Using shadow boxing can help release stress and can be a gateway into discovering hidden aspects of the self.
