Parking at CCHS

Parking
Please review this letter from Superintendent Dr. Laurie Hunter sent last year.

Last year the Concord Carlisle Regional School Committee (CCRSC) formed a Campus Advisory Committee (CAC) to study the current and potential future use of the school grounds. The site garnering the most interest and attention is the parcel of land with the most potential. Located on the Walden Street side of the CCHS campus (map), the recently completed remediation project leaves untapped acreage with latent potential. The Committee put forth recommendations for consideration, and it was widely recognized that any long-term plan needs to include a remedy to the current parking issues.

As noted in the Superintendent's letter, there are no short-term fixes to this long-term problem. This summer we lined the parking spaces in front of the Beede Center to maximize student parking and ensure the area was reserved for student parking.  Further, we added a few additional visitor spots in the top lot to accommodate guests at CCHS.

I am happy to report that all seniors requesting a parking space will be accommodated this school year.  That was a goal established last year to accommodate all seniors in need of parking.  In case a senior failed to request a spot over the summer, we will allow seniors the first week of school to request a parking spot.  Any additional spots at that time, roughly 10-15 spots, will be made available by lottery to members of the junior class.

We understand parking is a significant cause of frustration. We respectfully request that you recognize we have made all efforts to maximize the facility in the short-term, and there is nothing that can be done to increase the number of spots this school year.  I am sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.

In terms of the long-term plan, there is a special town meeting in the fall to discuss, among other things, a design study that will include a review of parking at CCHS.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.
