CCHS Robotics Team
The Concord-Carlisle High School FIRST Robotics team is looking for mentors and sponsors.
The CCHS First team consists of approximately 35 students across four grades. Each year, beginning in January, we design and build a robot to enter into the FIRST Robotics competition held in the spring. The cost of having a team has been increasing every year. The registration fee for the 2023 season has increased from $5000 to $6000. In addition, material costs continue to rise. Last year, the CCHS Robotics team was a NE regional competition winner, and we advanced to the NE District Championship. Participation at this championship event required an additional registration fee and additional funding for transportation.

The robot we build is an electrical-mechanical device that is programmed to perform specific tasks. Currently, our software programming is done in Java. Competition tasks require both human control and autonomous operation of the robot. We design and build all of the mechanisms on the robot, primarily using aluminum. Our fabrication facility consists of a variety of drill presses and saws (band, table, miter), a CNC milling machine, 3D printer, and laser cutter.

Many companies sponsor FIRST Robotics teams. In addition to being funded by the Concord Carlisle Regional School district, we have been very fortunate to have had Analog Devices as a sponsor for the past few years. Analog Devices will be continuing to sponsor us again this year. During the 2022 - 2223 season, we were also sponsored by the Cambridge Savings Bank and the Flory Giving Fund. We need more sponsors to offset rising costs. Companies are more likely to become team sponsors if there is an employee that has a connection to the team - resides in the community, is a team mentor, or is the parent of a team member. Please check with your company to see if they would be willing to sponsor our CCHS First Team. If so, please complete the sponsor interest form (Become a Sponsor) to provide us with the information we need to request or obtain funding.
The CCHS Robotics Team needs mentors that have the ability and desire to collaborate with and guide high school students. Having work or teaching experience in software, programming, electrical, or mechanical engineering or as an electrician, carpenter, fabricator, or technician is desirable. Another requirement is the ability to dedicate a minimum of 8 hours per week during the competition season, which runs from the 1st Saturday in January until the end of March. The season is modeled after an industry project with the release of robot performance tasks at the beginning of January, FIRST 2023 Game Reveal. The design, prototype, build, and test phases are followed by two weekend long competitions. Please complete the Mentor Interest Form if you are interested in becoming a mentor of our team. If you know anyone else who may be interested, please feel free to share this information with them.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please contact me at epicard@concordcarlisle.org or Coach Hickman at whickman80@gmail.com.
