Freshmen Orientation, Opening of School, Joseph Bodenrader, & More

By any measure, the first week of school was a raving success.  The quiet hallways of July and August were replaced with the energy and enthusiasm of students and staff.  CCHS staff returned happy and excited after spending the summer months recharging and preparing for the upcoming school year.  It was great to greet our nearly 1300 students from Carlisle, Boston, and Concord.

We had a successful freshmen orientation program that would not have been possible without the hard work and effort of CCHS teachers, Hanna Bruno & Jenna Lashley, along with student and staff leaders.  These individuals donate their time and energy to ensure a smooth and fruitful transition for all new students.

Assistant Principals Brian Miller, Leslie Knight and I met with students during the opening day assemblies and talked about the importance of creating a positive school culture where all student and staff contributions are valued.  We reminded them that we all contribute to a positive school culture and we must willfully wake up every day with the intention of contributing to the well-being of others.

Student Leaders for Freshmen Orientation

Freshmen Orientation
By Hanna Bruno
The Freshman class participated in an orientation led by 40 student leaders designed to be a high-energy, low-stress introduction to high school.  The goal of the day was to encourage incoming students to meet members of their class outside of their social group and learn about their school community; to allow freshman students to meet upperclassmen who can serve as valuable mentors, resources, friends, and support; and to familiarize freshmen students with the CCHS campus and their own schedule, all in an effort to help with the transition to high school.  The day was busy but fun.

Students started the day with a welcome assembly, were involved in a scavenger hunt throughout the building, followed their schedules, met teachers, staff, and administrators. Students participated in cooperative games within their advisory groups led by adults with varying roles in the school community. A special thank you to the student leaders and all who helped make the day run smoothly.

On behalf of all members of CCHS, I want to extend a warm and heartfelt welcome to the class of 2021.

Spectrum
By Bee Loprete
The members of Spectrum, CCHS’s GSA, were eager to help encourage a spirit of inclusion and safety at the school, and thanks to a generous Parents Association grant, we designed a project for Freshmen Orientation that Hanna Bruno, the Freshmen Orientation coordinator, helped us to execute.  On Tuesday, August 29th, when the ninth grade met with their Advisory teachers and student leaders, the upperclassmen led a discussion about school climate.  Each ninth grader completed the prompt: “Going to a school that feels safe to me means…”  on a colorful disk.  On Thursday afternoon, members of Spectrum posted the disks in the cafeteria.  We hope that the final product brings a sense of joy and community at the start of the school year!
